Pedestrian Safety McCarrs Creek Road

McCarrs Creek Road is inherently unsafe for pedestrians.  It is a narrow, winding road, it has in parts extensive car parking on the verges and generally has very little space available to pedestrians.

The Association has long campaigned Council for design changes to the road to improve pedestrian safety but the cost of creating a standard size footpath along the length of the road has been seen as prohibitive.

In early 2021 the Association presented Council with a raft of suggestions for improved pedestrian safety along McCarrs Creek Road (see attachment 1). The suggestions were developed by BCPRA with the assistance of a retired Traffic Engineer living in the area and comprised a series of common sense and relatively straightforward and inexpensive changes to the road and verge.

Council was invited to respond to the concerns of the local community and the suggestions put forward by the Association.

Recently (February 2022) Council delivered a letter to some residents in the McCarrs Creek Road vicinity, seeking feedback on a proposal to install additional line markings along the edge of sections of McCarrs Creek Road, together with red raised pavement markers. Only residents close to the proposed edge lines were notified.

Residents canvassed by Council are encouraged to submit their views and comments to council@northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au

The Association will continue to actively liaise with Council on this issue, with the aim of implementing suitable enhancements to pedestrian safety.

Update July 2024: Following representations by the association council have installed edge lines with red raised pavement markers . Attention has also been given to the maintenance of vegetation growth along the roadway.
